Of all the trophies and awards regarding the NFL, the Comeback Player Of The Year title is certainly something no player targets winning, as typically, the award recognizes players who have displayed resilience in making a triumphant return to top form from major injuries or excelling after a challenging season.
Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was the betting favorite for almost all of 2023 until Joe Flacco swooped in and secured the award after leading the Browns to the playoffs. This year, Joe Burrow has moved to the top of the odds board, making him the third QB to become the CPOY favorite this season.
With one week remaining in the regular season, without further ado, here are the 2024-25 Comeback Player of the Year odds from the top sports betting apps in the US, and around the world.

If it weren't for the Bengals' inability to find the win column consistently this season, Joe Burrow would likely be the favorite for MVP and Comeback Player of the Year. Even with the Bengals .500 record, Burrow is leading the league in passing yards with 4,641 and in passing touchdowns with 42.
Burrow is already on pace to fly past the numbers he had when he won Comeback Player of the Year in 2021 and when he led the Bengals to the Super Bowl in 2022. Health has always been a concern for Burrow, but even after his wrist surgery and dealing with another weak offensive line, he has played every game this season.
Despite an 8-8 record, the Bengals still have a slim chance of reaching the playoffs (17%) after beating the Broncos in week 17. After that overtime win, Burrow has thrown for three or more touchdown passes in eight consecutive games, and if it weren't for missed field goals, he would have led his team to victory in two of those games.
Cincinnati will need some help in order to sneak into the playoffs in the final week of the season, but at the very least, Burrow can solidify his MVP-esque season with another big performance over the Steelers.
Sam Darnold (Minnesota Vikings): Whether or not Sam Darnold can still win Comeback Player of the Year is still yet to be determined. With changes to the verbiage around who can win this award, Darnold technically would not qualify since he is not returning from injury. However, after starting the season in the top three on the odds board and then being removed entirely, Darnold is back in the top three after leading the Vikings to another win in week 17. With that win, Darnold has the Vikings sitting at 14-2 and has now thrown for 4,153 yards and 35 touchdowns.
J.K. Dobbins (RB, Los Angeles Chargers): Dobbins started the season on a high note coming off his ACL injury. With a new team, Dobbins led the Chargers' running attack, as he racked up 842 yards and nine touchdowns. Unfortunately for Dobbins and the Chargers faithful, he was placed on IR with a knee injury and missed a month. In his return to action, Dobbins did turn in a solid stat line though, rushing for 76 yards and a touchdown against New England.
Damar Hamlin (DB, Buffalo Bills): Much like Darnold, whether or not Hamlin is eligible for this award seems to still be up for debate, but regardless, he has still put together an impressive season. The Bills' safety is up to 83 tackles on the year to go along with five pass defenses and two interceptions.
After the award came back in 1998, quarterback Chad Pennington is the only player in NFL history to win the Comeback Player of the Year title more than once, having claimed it in 2006 with the New York Jets and 2008 with the Miami Dolphins.

Regarding player positions, quarterbacks have been favored in the Comeback Player of the Year title hunt. Ever since the award came back in 1998, a quarterback has won the title 16 times from the 25 total.
The last six award winners have all been quarterbacks.
Only five defensive players have won the NFL CPOY since 1998, the last one being Kansas City safety Eric Berry in 2015.
The CPOY award has been shared only once in NFL history, as Tedy Bruschi and Steve Smith Sr. both won the title in 2005.
Most commonly, the CPOY award is given to a player who missed multiple games due to some type of injury during the previous season. Eight of the last nine winners missed at least five games from their previous season before being named Comeback Player of the Year.
Geno Smith, the 2022 winner, is one of only two players since 2013 to achieve this without suffering an injury in the preceding year.
While there are usually clear frontrunners for this award each year, even the "long shot" options can prevail. During the 2022-23 season, the CPOY winner Geno Smith's longest odds for Comeback Player of the Year were a whoppin' +6000.
