Fernando Mendoza (Indiana): The last two #1 overall picks were transfer quarterbacks, and Mendoza has a chance to make that three. After showing flashes of immense potential at Cal, Mendoza has taken it to another level at Indiana. Through five games, the Hooisers quarterback has thrown for 1,208 yards, 16 touchdowns, and just one interception.
LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina): Out of the top quarterbacks in this draft class, Sellers had the least notoriety out of high school. The talented dual-threat QB took over as the starter last season at South Carolina, and he finished the year with 18 passing touchdowns and seven rushing touchdowns. Sure, those numbers may not have led the country, but Sellers showed elite traits that are rare to find, which have made him a prized target for many NFL franchises. To start the 2025 season, Sellers has not exactly racked up the stats with 886 passing yards and four touchdowns, but he's continued to prove he has arguably the highest ceiling among any QB in this draft.
Dante Moore (Oregon): Dante Moore walked away from a starting job at UCLA to sit behind Dillon Gabriel last season at Oregon. Well, that move has proven to be a smart one as Moore is flying up the odds board to be selected first overall. Moore's most significant move in this market came after he led the Ducks to a road win over Penn State. With three touchdowns in that game, he has now thrown for 1,210 yards and a 14:1 TD-to-INT ratio.

Just like players and coaches on the field, NFL front offices also have tendencies. For bettors, understanding these tendencies, or the teams' philosophy, can help make draft season a profitable time. There is a lot of smoke and mirrors leading up to each draft, so having an understanding of whether a team likes to draft based on scheme fit or just take the best player available is a very important piece of information to know.
When a team feels as if their championship window may be closing within the next few years, they may show a tendency to draft based on scheme so that they can plug and play their first-round pick. On the other hand, there could be teams that prefer to let the first round of the draft play out and adjust from there, such as the Philadelphia Eagles.
Understanding how teams make decisions is crucial in identifying value across multiple markets, such as determining the position a team will draft in the first round or identifying the first-round landing spots for different players. A team that has been having success over the past few seasons may have more freedom and willingness to reach on a player they may need, for example, the Chiefs went into the 2025 Draft needing offensive line help, and that is exactly what they addressed in the first round despite there being better players on the board from different positions.
