The SEC has remained the premier conference in college football, and while that didn't exactly prove to be the case during the College Football Playoff, the level of talent in the league cannot be denied.
While the Georgia Bulldogs won their second SEC Title in three years in 2024, the league could see drastic changes headed into 2025 with multiple premier programs running out a new quarterback. With guys like Arch Manning joining the party, the race for the 2025 SEC Title is already shaping up to be an exciting one. With the 2025 season around the corner, we will keep bettors informed of all changes from now until conference championship weekend.

Texas Longhorns: The time has come for Arch Manning to lead the Texas Longhorns. Manning saw action last season, but ultimately, it was Quinn Ewers who was running the show while healthy. Now Manning will take over a Texas team that has made two straight College Football Playoffs but has yet to reach the finals. Outside of Manning, the Longhorns are built for a title run with a stellar defense, and that defense will undoubtedly be put to the test in Week One when Texas plays Ohio State on the road.

For most of the 2024-25 season, it looked as if the Miami Hurricanes would be the ACC Champions. However, with a late-season loss to Syracuse, the Clemson Tigers went on to win their fourth conference championship in the last six seasons. While the Tigers are certainly built to continue their dominance again this season, teams such as Louisville, SMU, and Miami won't make it easy on them.

Clemson Tigers: Four of the last six ACC Championships have been claimed by the Clemson Tigers, and with Cade Klubnik still under center, they have a good chance of adding to their trophy case. The Tigers opened last season with a blowout loss to Georgia, but would go on to only lose one conference game the rest of the year. Clemson has a similar schedule this season with a ranked opponent in Week One, but their biggest conference game will come at the end of the season when they head on the road to Louisville to play the Cardinals team that handed them their only ACC loss last season.

The Ohio State Buckeyes may be the defending National Champions, but they are not the reigning Big-10 champs. In fact, the Buckeyes have not won the conference championship since 2020. With all that said, the Buckeyes have opened as the favorite to sit atop the conference this upcoming season. Being a preseason favorite doesn't get you anything, though, and the Buckeyes will need to beat teams like Michigan this season if they want to hoist the Big Ten title.

Ohio State Buckeyes: Fresh off their National Championship, the Ohio State Buckeyes return the best wide receiver in football, Jeremiah Smith. This season, though, it won't be Will Howard throwing to him, but instead it will be Julian Sayin. The redshirt freshman will take over an offense that averaged 35.7 points per game last season. Although Chip Kelly is no longer the offensive coordinator, the Buckeyes possess enough talent to excel in most systems.

There isn't a major college football conference as wide open as the Big 12. Much like last season, this conference will likely come down to the wire, as we saw cannibalism down the stretch in 2024-25. After making a late push at the end of the last season and winning the conference, Arizona State is among the five teams with the shortest odds entering 2025-26. While those five teams project to have strong seasons, there are a few dark horses in the conference who could come out of nowhere and ruin quite a few future bets.

Arizona State Sun Devils: After opening at +10,000 to win the conference last season, Kenny Dillingham's team went on to win the title and make noise in the College Football Playoff. While the Sun Devils did lose running back Cam Skattebo, they are returning quarterback Sam Leavitt and his favorite wideout Jordan Tyson. Behind Leavitt, the Sun Devils averaged 32.9 points and 429.4 yards per game last season, and they certainly have enough ability to match or improve upon those numbers this season.

Whether fans like it or not, the transfer portal appears to be here to stay. Transfers have always been a part of college football, but now they have become an integral part of the offseason. With big-name players coming in and out of the top programs, a good transfer portal class can change a program's trajectory.
For fans, the transfer portal can be either exciting or heartbreaking, but for bettors, it can be the difference in an edge. Quarterback transfers are one thing, as they play a big part in a team's long-term success, but transfers from other positions can determine whether a futures bet is a winner or loser.
With that, the question becomes how bettors can analyze transfer portal classes and factor that into their handicapping process. Well, NET production added is a good starting point. Bettors can begin by examining added or lost snap counts at various positions, including offensive and defensive line, cornerback, linebacker, wide receiver, and more. This can help determine whether a team is replacing a star defensive end with another veteran college player or an unproven freshman.
A P4 team will lose its fair share of players each year to the draft or the portal, but if bettors notice that a team replaced those players with potential budding stars from G5 programs, then it may be worth more of a bet than a team that lost a ton of production and maybe did not hit the portal as hard as it should have.
