Making a deep run into the MLB postseason without a strong bullpen is an almost impossible task. No matter how much the game changes, one thing that won’t change is the need for a high-level closer, but finding one is far easier said than done.
Being able to breathe a sigh of relief when a certain reliever enters a tight game is something only fans from certain teams can experience this season. Those relievers who bring a sense of calm to a hectic situation are also fighting for the Reliever of the Year Award. After Emmanuel Clase and Ryan Helsley won the 2024 Reliever of the Year award, we'll keep bettors up to date on the 2025 Reliever of the Year award.

Edwin Diaz (NY Mets): After making his second career All-Star game in 2022, Edwin Diaz missed the 2023 season with an injury. In his return to action as the Mets closer in 2024, Diaz recorded 20 saves, but he also tied his career high with seven blown saves in 53.2 innings. Diaz will look to bounce back this season, as the Mets are facing their highest expectations in quite some time.
Ryan Helsley (STL Cardinals): Ever since 2022, the man they call "Hellz Bellz" has been a force out of the Cardinals bullpen. In his first full season as the Cardinals' lone closer, Helsley recorded a career-high 49 saves in 53 save opportunities. Helsley finished the year with 66.1 innings, in which he racked up 79 strikeouts and posted a 2.04 ERA and 2.41 FIP, which were enough to earn him his first Reliever of the Year honors.
Raisel Iglesias (ATL Braves): Due to injuries, the Braves' 2024 season was disappointing. However, one of the bright spots was the play of Iglesias, who tied his career high with 34 saves in 69.1 innings. Iglesias was in the mix for Reliever of the Year all season, as he managed a 1.95 ERA and 2.65 FIP along with his 68 strikeouts.

Emmanuel Clase (CLE Guardians): On the way to the second Reliever of the Year award in his career, Emmanuel Clase left no doubts that he was the most dominant closer in the game during the regular season. In 74.1 innings, the Guardians closer racked up a career-high 47 saves while pitching to a .61 ERA and finishing third in Cy Young voting.
Mason Miller (Athletics): At one point last season, Mason Miller was the heavy favorite to win AL Rookie of the Year. While he did not take home that award, he still put together an All-Star-level season with 28 saves and 104 strikeouts in 65 innings of work.
Josh Hader (HOU Astros): Not only was last season the first time Josh Hader was a closer in the American League, but it was also the first time he threw at least 70 innings since 2019. In his first season with the Astros, the hard-throwing lefty recorded 34 saves in 38 opportunities. Overall, Hader would end the regular season with a 3.50 FIP and 105 strikeouts, which was the most he's had since 2021.
