A.J. Hinch (Detroit Tigers): Following the Astros' sign-stealing scandal, Hinch's future in the league was a big question mark. Well, by helping the Tigers turn into a contender, Hinch is back in the best manager conversation. In his first four seasons in Detroit, Hinch has only finished 4th in the division once, and early on this season, his Tigers look primed to win the AL Central for the first time since 2014, as they are 39-21 with the second best run differential in the AL (+86).
Dan Wilson (Seattle Mariners): Dan Wilson has been part of the Seattle Mariners organization for quite a while. In 2013, Wilson was hired as the team's minor league catching coordinator. Fast-forward to last season, he was named the Mariners' manager in late August after the firing of Scott Servais. In 34 games as the manager, Wilson went 21-13, and in his first full season as a manager, he has continued his winning ways as Seattle is sitting atop the AL West with the season entering early June.
Bruce Bochy (Texas Rangers): Bochy is one of four managers that currently have (+1600) odds to win Manager of the Year in the AL. The Rangers went into the season with high expectations but are playing in a very tough AL West divison. Early on in June, Texas is in third place in the divison with a 29-31 record. While Bochy's pitching staff is tied for the fewest runs allowed in the AL (201), his lineup has really struggled to remain consistent as their 204 runs scored is the third fewest in the AL behind the White Sox.

Odds as of June 2, 2025
Craig Counsell (Chicago Cubs): It was a disappointing first season for Craig Counsell and the Cubs, as they finished 83-79 and missed the postseason. However, even with their third-place finish in the division, Chicago opened as the favorite to win the NL Central this season, and so far, the oddsmakers certainly priced that market correctly. Chicago was the first team in the division to reach the 20-win mark, and in early June, they boast a (+97) run differential, while holding a four game lead in the Central.
Oliver Marmol (St. Louis Cardinals): The Cardinals entered the season with the worst odds to win the NL Central on a few notable sportsbooks. However, as the season transitions into June, St. Louis is sitting in second place in the divison with a 33-26 record and (+30) run differential, as Marmol's team has exceeded expectations both at the plate and on the mound.
Bob Melvin (San Diego Padres): Having to be in the same division as the Dodgers should automatically give extra weight to managers in the NL West regarding this award. Talent-wise, Bob Melvin is leading one of the most talented teams in the MLB, but even with that, many would be surprised if San Diego won the NL West. With that said, Melvin's team is 33-24 and two games back of the Dodgers while sporting a (+16) run differential.
