Sam Bennett earned the Conn Smythe Trophy with a dominant playoff run, highlighted by a league-leading 15 goals—five of which came in the Stanley Cup Finals series alone. In addition, he became just the fourth current player to hit the 15-goal mark in a single postseason, joining elite company like Zach Hyman (16 goals in 2024), Alex Ovechkin (15 goals in 2018), and Sidney Crosby (15 goals in 2009).
Notably, Bennett broke the NHL record for most goals scored on the road in one playoff campaign with 13, and his streak of scoring in six straight road games tied him for the fifth-longest such stretch in league history. This clutch performance helped push the Panthers past the Oilers in Game 5 and secured his place in team lore as the first Florida Panther to ever win the Conn Smythe.
After totaling 16 of a possible 17 first-place votes, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid won the Conn Smythe Award, making him the sixth-ever player to get the trophy after losing the Stanley Cup finals. The last time this happened was in 2003 when Anaheim Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere won the title despite losing to the New Jersey Devils in seven games.
Before this, the same happened with Ron Hextall (1987), Leach (1976), Glenn Hall (1968), and Roger Crozier (1966).
For 2024, the cup champions' skaters Aleksander Barkov (46 voting points) and Gustav Forsling (8 voting points) were number two and three in the voting, far behind McDavid (83 voting points).
