Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers): Fresh off winning the Conn Smythe despite not winning the Stanley Cup, Connor McDavid looks to be on a war path to bring the Oilers back to glory. In Edmonton's first-round series against the Kings, McDavid buried two goals and dished out nine assists. By registering six more points in the Oilers series with Vegas and nine more in the WCF, McDavid entered the Finals with 26 points this postseason. Well, it did not take long for McDavid to make his mark on the Finals, either, as he picked up two assists in the Oilers' Game One win, including the one that led to the game winner.
Leon Draisaitl (Edmonton Oilers): After leading the NHL in goals during the regular season, Leon Draisaitl showed he's also looking to lead the Stanley Cup Finals in goals. Draisaitl kicked off the 2024 series rematch with the Panthers by scoring the first goal of the game, and after Edmonton worked their way back into the game, he quickly buried the game winner on a power play in overtime.
Sergei Bobrovsky (Florida Panthers): Bobrovsky is a high-end goalie during the regular season, but when the playoffs roll around, he turns into a different animal. Last postseason, the Panthers' goalie had a goals-against average of 2.33. Before the Stanley Cup Finals, his average stood at 2.11 after the Eastern Conference Finals. Bobrovsky did hold firm for the first period and a half of Game One, but he would end up allowing four goals in total on the way to a loss.

Conn Smythe winner doesn't win the Stanley Cup | +2000 |
After totaling 16 of a possible 17 first-place votes, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid won the Conn Smythe Award, making him the sixth-ever player to get the trophy after losing the Stanley Cup finals. The last time this happened was in 2003 when Anaheim Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere won the title despite losing to the New Jersey Devils in seven games.
Before this, the same happened with Ron Hextall (1987), Leach (1976), Glenn Hall (1968), and Roger Crozier (1966).
For 2024, the cup champions' skaters Aleksander Barkov (46 voting points) and Gustav Forsling (8 voting points) were number two and three in the voting, far behind McDavid (83 voting points).
