Odds on August 7, 2025
New York Liberty: The New York Liberty earned the #1 seed in the playoffs, and they used that home-court advantage to win the 2024 WNBA Finals in five games. While many people question the officiating in the deciding game of the finals, the Liberty are still champions for the first time in franchise history. New York immediately became the favorites to repeat as champions in 2025, and they've since started the season with a 19-10 record and rank 2nd in NET rating (7.4).
Minnesota Lynx: The Lynx finished the regular season with the second-best record in the league and the best record in the Western Conference at 30-10. With a NET rating of 8, the Lynx earned the #2 seed and fell just short of another title. Minnesota is still in a good spot moving forward with Napheesa Collins leading the charge, so it's not shocking to see them right behind the Liberty on the odds board. Entering the second half of the 2025 season, the Lynx have only found themselves in the loss column five times, as they lead the league in NET rating (14.7) and adjusted defensive efficiency rating (95.4).
Phoenix Mercury: Behind Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas, the Phoenix Mercury have opened the year with an 18-11 record, which puts them in second in the Western Conference. Phoenix has also proven to be consistent on both ends of the floor, ranking 6th in adjusted offensive efficiency (103.4) and 4th in adjusted defensive efficiency rating (99.7).

The added attention to the WNBA has primarily stemmed from the influx of talent the league has seen over the past few seasons. Players like A'Ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark have made the league a must-watch event on a nightly basis. Following the 2024 WNBA Finals, Wilson and Clark opened atop the odds board for the 2025 MVP, but they have since fallen behind in the race, as Napheesa Collier has become the heavy favorite.

Odds as of August 7, 2025
Napheesa Collier (Minnesota Lynx): Behind her 20.4 PPG, Collier led her team to the WNBA Finals in 2024. Like Wilson, the Lynx star does everything well on the court, pulling down 9.7 rebounds per game. Collier is one of the purest scoring threats in the league, shooting 49.2% from the field in 2024. After falling short of a title, Collier certainly looks motivated to get back to the WNBA Finals, as she's opened the 2025 season by averaging 23.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Even with those numbers, though, Collier has seen her odds for MVP dip a bit due to an ankle injury that will hold her out for at least two weeks.
Alyssa Thomas (Phoenix Mercury): In her 11th season, Alyssa Thomas is in her first season with the Phoenix Mercury. Well, Thomas has certainly made her presence felt in Phoenix as she has the Mercury in second in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, her former team has become one of the league's worst teams. Stats-wise, Thomas is making an impact everywhere, averaging 15.8 points, 9.1 assists, and 8.6 rebounds per game.
A'ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces): Three of the last six MVP awards have gone to A'ja Wilson, and while her team has not been as dominant as they were over the past few seasons, Wilson has been. The Aces star is averaging 21.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game this season. On top of that, she is on pace to set a new career high in assists per game, currently averaging 3.3 through 26 games.

Paige Bueckers (Dallas Wings): After her storied college career, which ended with a National Championship, Bueckers was expected to be taken 1st overall, and the Dallas Wings made that a reality. In her senior year, Bueckers averaged 19.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists, as she is expected to be one of the focal points of the Wings' offense in her rookie season. To start her WNBA career, Bueckers is averaging 18.6 points and 5.4 assists per game. Those numbers have not only made her a heavy favorite to win ROY, but they made her a WNBA All-Star starter.
Sonia Citron (Washington Mystics): The Mystics selected Citron with the third pick in the WNBA Draft, which came after her impressive season at Notre Dame. Citron averaged 14.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in her senior season, and her impressive three-point shooting has already carried over into her pro career, as her 36.9% three-point percentage has resulted in her averaging 14.3 points per game this season.
Kiki Iriafen (Washington Mystics): After drafting Sonia Citron with the third pick in the draft, the Mystics quickly followed that up by selecting Iriafen 4th overall out of USC. Iriafen was drafted to help solidify the Mystics' interior, and so far she has done that by nearly averaging a double-double with 12.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
