Oklahoma City Thunder: In the 2024-25 regular season, the Thunder were the best defensive team in the league, allowing just 107.4 points per 100 possessions in non-garbage time, per Cleaning the Glass. Behind that defense and the play of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the Thunder earned the #1 seed in the Western Conference and made light work of the Grizzlies in the first round by sweeping them. After going to seven games with Denver, the Thunder only had one hiccup in the Western Conference Finals, as they dismantled the Timberwolves in Game Five, booking their ticket to the NBA Finals.
Indiana Pacers: Winning on the road and overcoming large deficits has become the norm for the Indiana Pacers. After beating the Bucks in Round One, the Pacers made relatively light work of the Cavaliers in the second round, despite Cleveland having the best record in the league during the regular season. Playing in their second straight Eastern Conference Finals, the Pacers started the series by completing a 14-point 4th quarter comeback to win in overtime, only to be in control for all of Game Two as well. After losing Game Three at home, Indiana immediately bounced back with a 130-121 win in Game Four, giving them a 3-1 lead in the series.
New York Knicks: During the regular season, the New York Knicks did not win a single matchup against the Boston Celtics, but as we've seen countless times, the playoffs are a different animal. With two straight 20+ point comebacks in Games 1 & 2, the Knicks built an early lead in the series, and despite dropping two games, the Knicks have advanced to their first Eastern Conference Finals since 2000. New York looked like they were also able to get their first ECF win in over 20 years as well on Wednesday night, but a 14-point blown lead in the 4th quarter led to a shocking overtime loss in Game One. After also dropping Game Two at home, New York gave Indiana a taste of their own medicine in Game 3 by making a late comeback and stealing the game, but their momentum stopped there, as they went on to lose Game Four.
